Excuse me, what is this?

a:ああ、これは　ぬた。ねぎ　の　すみそ　あえ　です。

Ohhh, this is called “Nuta.” Scallions and Miso mixed together.

b:ねぎ　 の　なんですか？

Scallions with what?

a:えーっと、、、す　と　みそ　の　ソース。

Well… the sauce is made from miso and vinegar.

c:これは　なんですか？

And, what is this?

a:ひじき。　ひじき　は　かいそう、うみ　の　くさ　ね。

“Higiki.” Higiki is seaweed. Sort of like the grass of the sea. 

 

d:それは　なんですか？

And, what is that?

a:なすでんがく。なすび　の　みそだれ。

Nasu-dengaku.” Eggplant with miso sauce.

d:もういちど　おねがいします。

Could you say that again?

a:なすび　と　みそ　の　ソース。ちょっと　あまい　です。

Eggplant in miso sauce. The sauce is a bit sweet.

それは　あじの　なんばんづけ。まあ　さかなの　マリネ　かな。

That is called “Aji no Nanbanzuke.” I suppose it’s a marinated type of fish.

 　
あれは　にくじゃが。ぎゅうにく　と　じゃがいも。

And over there we have “Niku-jaga.” Meat and potatoes.

b:わかりました。ありがとうございます。これ　と　これ　に　します。
